Chanting Rhythm

"Dum Tak Dum Tak, Dum Tak Dum Tak", like a heart beat, repeats itself over and over in my head and heart.

Just finished giving an open lesson towards the Sacred Healing Music Course I teach at the Voices of Eden Center and Peace Garden in the hills of Galilee.

The people attending did not know one another... had never met before. First we tuned our instruments so that we would be attuned to one another. Like an orchestra that tunes through it's cacophony into a sound of harmony, these many bodies grunted and groaned through focusing exercices, which resulted in natural sounds coming out of their mouths and bodies.

The final step was to sound rhythm together: Dum, Tak, Dum Tak... These are the natural rhythmic sounds in an eastern approach to music. Like a heart beating as one, the simple mantra turned into a beautiful song. I was able to sing a simple melody on top. At the end of the session, the energy was increased... people connected and speaking with one another.

If you'd like to hear the piece... go to: http://www.cdbaby.com/gilad3 and listen to the Galilee Chant.
